Light is a part of electromagnetic waves. You may know the way we get light from the solar energy and the innovation of artificial sources of light. This blog is all about the booming of light industry.
This is the story of 200 years ago, Humphry Davy started in his lab to innovate battery. He successfully created battery. He connected two wires with the battery and a carbon. He noticed that the carbon glowed and producing light. But it is only for a short time. so it can't be used in practical life. His light is known as Electric Arc Lamp.
In 1840, a British Scientist Warren de le Rue worked in his lab for the light bulbs He used platinum as filament. It works but platinum is a costly material. Then in 1850, Joseph Wilson Swan created light bulbs by using carbonized paper as filament but it has the same problem of short lifetime.
In 1878, Thomas Edison started his research about developing an in an incandescent lamp. By January 1879 he built his first high resistance electric light by using platinum filament inside a vacuum glass. But he wants to improve it and try to use carbon material as filament Only in 15 hours later the carbon started Coburn always with a new idea. He tested every material as filament. He successfully may not create the electrical bulb but he gives us the formula of making a light. He patented 1093 of his process of making light. Later scientist judge the problem in filament and took tungsten as filament as tungsten has a high melting point. In 1956 halogen light is introduced in the world. But it requires more energy and a lot of its energy was wasted.
As Incandescent lamps require more energy E. Hammer, an engineer designing the CFL ( compact fluorescent light bulb). At first these CFL bulbs are used in commercial areas. In 1976 the design was leaked and other companies also started to produce the light bulb. when current is flow inside the CFL bulbs containing Argon and Mercury. That generates invisible light which excites the phosphor ( coated on bulbs) and it gives us visible light.
Now the light of the world is about LED( light-emitting diode). LED is made up of semiconductor. when current flows through the led bulbs electrons in the semiconductor mixed with electron holes and releasing energy in the form of photons. So on we continue to make it better . LED is not the future. The future is different. But the way of innovation is the future process of light.
Today, we think it is easy but it is actually not simple.
