#13. How does Rainbow form ? How many colours are there in Rainbow ?

Rainbow:

Rainbow is an art of nature. It is a multicolour circular arc. A Rainbow multiply the beauty of nature. You may know or not the perfect the reason behind the formation of a simple but magnificent Rainbow. How is a Rainbow created?

    In a simple way, the water droplets split the sunlight into several colours and we called these colour as Rainbow.

Sunlight is made up of different colours consisting of different wavelengths .when the sun is behind the viewer and low in the sky by making an angle of 42 degrees above the horizon and water droplets are present in front of us then we see Rainbow

The shape of water droplets are spherical. When the sunlight falls upon the surface of water droplets and then they split into several colours. As the light ray comes from the sun travel in air medium then enters into water medium Refraction takes place then the another phenomenon takes place inside the water droplets is an internal reflection and lastly, they leave the water droplets by their wavelengths violet (short wavelength) to red (large wavelength). finally we see a Rainbow.

Rainbow is actually a full cycle. From ground level, we are unable to see the full rainbow, but from the sky, we can see a circular rainbow. Rainbow is not only the example of our optical illusion, red rainbow, fog bows, a moonbow is also kind of them.

Colours of Rainbow:

Rainbow is special due to its colour. The name " Roy G. Biv "  may help you to easily remember the colour of Rainbow. These are :
  1. Red
  2. Orange
  3. Yellow
  4. Green
  5. Blue
  6. Indigo
  7. Violet     
In the world of visible light Red has the highest wavelength of about 650 nanometers so it appears in the upper part of  Rainbow. And the violet colour has the shortest wavelength of about 450 nanometers so it is in the lower level.  All the light overlap and white light formed at their edges.
